I like simple. And, one way to get to simple is to use Flatfile instead of a dBase such as MySQL. For the majority of websites that I see in the small business and non-profit field there is no need to fool with any esoteric dBase. Flatfile works just fine. I use it for our church website and others.

Those are based on CMSimple. Another way to go is editing using WIKI coding. But, maybe you don't want to fool around with that learning curve.

Well, you don't have to. PmWiki allows you to modify the edit engine to take HTML coding. I use it this way at a test site I am working on.

At least where I am, it seems that digital is iffy with the grey-hairs. Maybe something (desktop) they will fire up once or twice a week. But, communication doesn't work that way. I overheard one say we don't use the computer (check E-mail) in the summer .

So, wondering how communication is parsed out and what a given church audience might be. Or, if a particular medium would be used because it is the most used by that demographic audience.

For me, it's called segmetation strategy and pushing the right buttons.

For that matter, does your church have communication like a telephone chain to get the word out?

Several years ago I came across a newsletter by Cross Creek Community UCC, Dayton, OH which was the best I had ever seen. It was done in PDF so web enabled. It was short, one or two pages with bold graphics. It was better than anything I had seen including that put out by the national office. I recently went back to this website after hearing Rev. Mike Castle so eloquently speak to a resolution st General Synod 28. However, I did not find a link for a newsletter although sermons are offered in PDF and audio. Did I miss the link?

Still, here is the question.

Are newsletters whether print or web enabled old hat? Are new ways of communication? Or, does it depend on the audience? And, the website is visitor driven NOT member driven? Or, is it generational? If your church is made up of grey-hairs, do you fall back into the print newsletter mode? Younger, you are out of that room by default? What do you think? And, what do you offer?
